Canada Post strike and how it affects us and you

Update as of December 16, 2024: Canada Post will resume operations on December 17, 2024.

“Canada Post says operations will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 17 after the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered a return to work.

Canada Post says it has agreed with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to implement a five per cent wage increase retroactive to the day after the collective agreements expired.” - cbc.ca

In an email from Canada Post on Dec 16, the corporation says: “Some limitations will apply for the first 48 hours after our operations resume – including for pickups and drop-offs. Because of this, we will not receive or pick up new product until Thursday, December 19.

We'll begin shipping orders as soon as possible. Please know, that Canada Post has publicly stated that there will be a huge backlog of parcels and lettermail and that typical shipping transit times will not likely be possible.

Please reach out to us directly if you have questions or concerns about your order.

Unclench your jaw. Relax your shoulders. Take a deep breath.

This has been a tough time for all of us who rely on Canada Post and for workers. Thank-you for your patience and understanding.

Post offices will be busy and we’ll all have better days if we can all act with kindness, patience, and empathy.

I wish I had more answers about when the strike that began today will be over. I hope a fair deal is struck very soon.

Please know that I’ve been exploring alternative shipping options for a while now, in case this happened. Each affected order will still have to be looked at on a case-by case basis. Thank-you for your patience and understanding.

News update - Nov 27, 2024

This is disappointing news to absorb, after days of waiting for news of progress. I’ll continue to follow this story and share updates as they are made available.

Today, I had the pleasure of being interviewed on CBC’s As It Happens to chat about the impact of the strike on small business. It was a welcome surprise to be asked. (It’s always been one of my favourite radio shows! And it was my drive home listen after doing my own private commercial radio show for years.)

You can listen to the Nov 15 episode, and I’m in the first interview segment.

Holly, our youngest cat, even makes a surprise appearance. 😅
